Auzzie Recommended Sites.

Note: This site is now a little out of date!

Google is a search engine. You use search engines to find information about anything you are after. Just remember that what you ask it for is normally what you'll get, be it good or bad.

Google is currently the search engine of choice for Internet users.

Yahoo is a search engine, like Google. It specialises in categorised searches.
Babelfish is a translation page - you can use it to translate between English, German, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, French, Korean, Italian and Portugese. The results are humorours but useful. Google is developing a more capable site here.
Cybersitter is a program you can put on your computer, which prevents people from looking at sites you deem to be offensive.
If you own a printer, here's an Australian site that sells inkjet refill kits and cartridges. Recent HP printers are easy to refill! Epsons and Lexmark are not.
Well, it happens :) Bored.com is full of jokes, nicknacks and stories. Be sure to read the story about The $95,093.35 cheque.
WinMX is a file and music sharing program, ideal for finding those rare songs you can't buy any more. Similar programs are KaZaA and AudioGalaxy, but WinMX is the only one without spyware.

The recommended player for music downloaded from the Internet.
(You might also need RealPlayer for other music - be VERY cautious when downloading RealPlayer as they may try to trick you into buying it.)

A fairly effective free popup window killer. Aggressive mode is best :)
Some nasty websites and many free programs hide spyware inside themselves. These report your internet usage to advertisers, etc. and can make your computer unstable. Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is a free program that removes spyware.
How stuff works is an excellent site for finding out how various items work. Ever wondered how a differential or a motor works?
ICQ is an online chat program, similar to MSN / Windows Messenger. If you have it, you can see when your friends are on the Internet and send them messages instantly. Or you can just use it to find a friend, based on location, hobbies, etc. I'm there on #5424445
If you don't want to install ICQ, you can use it from almost any computer just by clicking here.
Auzzie.net used to be known as LiSP Bourke. Here is the historical archive of the home page and the various SmorgasBoards of that time. Interesting Reading :)
